Igneous Rocks

Granite

Answers for Lab:

1.     The name of our rock is Granite.

2.    Granite is a igneous rock.

3.    It is a little rough and bumpy.

4.    Sedimentary: A rock that forms when different layers of sediment squeeze together and harden over time.

Igneous: A rock that forms when magma or lava cools and hardens.

Metamorphic:  A rock that changes from an igneous or sedimentary rock due to pressure or heat. 

5.  In my house the kitchen counter is made of granite. Here is a picture of it.

6.     We compared our rock to group two's rock and it is not the same. Group two had a rock named, shale.

7.    Shale is smooth and soft.

Instructions:

  1. You will be assigned to a group of 3-4 students per group.
  2. Observe the rock that was given to your group.
  3. Complete your research on this blog to learn about the 3 different types of rocks. Please use the "Websites of Interests" to guide you.
  4. On this blog your group will create a post.
  5. To create a new post; click on the picture of the pencil on the top of the blog screen that is labeled "create new post."
  6. Title your post the name of the group your rock belongs to (eg. igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic).

    On your post you must complete the following; 

    • Take a picture of your rock and upload it to your post.
    • Find out which rock your group has and what category it falls under by using the videos and websites provided on this blog.
    • Find videos on the internet that match your topic and upload it to your post.
    • On your post you must also answer the lab questions 1-7.
    • Your group is to use the bookmarked pages to copy and                   paste pictures onto the post of items made using your rock.
    • Type all the names of everyone in your group on the bottom of the post.


    Questions for lab:
    1. Do you know the name of your rock?
    2. What type of rock is it; Sedimentary, Igneous or Metamorphic?
    3. Describe your rock. Is it soft, hard, rough, bumpy, or smooth?
    4. Can you define; sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks? 
    5. Do you have something at home that is made out of this rock? If yes please upload a picture of an item made of this rock on your post.
    6. Compare your rock to the group next to you. Is it the same type of rock?
    7. After you compared the rock with the group next to you, list 2 differences.
